Hello, I’m new to this forum. I have a collection of stamps from almost every country in the world which I inherited. I’ve looked through a few albums and in the United States collection, I came across a 1908 5cts stamp identified as printed on bluish grey paper. after checking it on the internet, it seemed to be a rare stamp, but since we see everything and anything, i wanted to discuss it with you so that you could help me, because here in france (and yes, i’m french) no one is able to help me. so i’m posting the photos i took. you’ll find a photo of the stamp, a comparison with the 5cts stamp on white paper and the back of the stamp. please let me know what you think.
Thank you for your help.
Alexandre
It’s hard to tell the bluish paper variety of the 5 cent, being that the design is blue. The ink from the press can, or washing the stamp can tone the paper outside of the design a bluish tint. The authentic bluish paper will look more gray than blue. However in either case you can always send it in for authenticity. Perhaps a $30 gamble, that may pay off, or could have value as a learning experience and now you have a reference of what is not bluish paper.
