This beautiful postage stamp is over 150 years old. The stamp was issued in 1869 commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

On it is the famous John Trumbull painting of the founders of the United States in a beautiful deep violet color. It’s surrounded by a beautifully engraved green frame.

At the top are the words U. S. postage and below is the value of 24 cents. 24 cents in 1869 is equal to around $6 in today’s money and was primarily used for mailing overseas.

It’s one of the first stamps in the United States with a picture of a scene on it instead of a portrait. It’s known to stamp collectors as Scott #120 and is worth $8,000.

Scott is the value guide for all U. S. stamps. Stamps can make a great hobby or investment opportunity if you’re a fan of history and art.
