This postage stamp was issued over 135 years ago in 1887. It features a side profile bust of the first President of the United States, George Washington.

It was issued during the Wild West period where mail was still delivered on horseback and by steed.

The stamp held a three cent value, which was mainly used for mail between the eastern and western United States.

Its color is a rich reddish orange, which is formally called vermilion in the Scott Stamp Catalog.

Scott is the most recognized value guide for all United States postage stamps. In 2024, this stamp was worth $65.
