This beautiful postage stamp was issued over 120 years ago in 1902. It depicts the fourth president of the United States, James Madison.

It is gorgeously engraved in a deep blue color with the value of two dollars presented in small shields. Stemming above are corn or tobacco leaves, both of which were large commodities for the country during Madison’s presidency.

His year of birth and passing are next to his name. This stamp was part of a larger series, from one cent all the way up to five dollars.

It’s important to realize that $2 and 1902 was equivalent to $75 today. This means that it was printed in smaller quantities than the lower value stamps, thus making it more rare.

This stamp is better known as Scott #312. Scott is the standard value guide for stamp collecting in 2024. It was valued at $825.
